ABIR hosts International Association of Insurance Supervisors Secretary-General for Bermuda SeaSide Chat
Axis Capital CEO & ABIR Chair Albert Benchimol to moderate; Climate, ComFrame, Pandemic & Reinsurance to be discussed

Hamilton, Bermuda (October 14, 2020) – The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) will host a Virtual Seaside Chat with the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) Secretary General Jonathan Dixon. ABIR extends an invitation to the entire Bermuda insurance/reinsurance market along with the Bermuda Monetary Authority to participate.

“ABIR is pleased to welcome Secretary General Dixon to Bermuda – virtually – to discuss the critical insurance regulatory and supervisory issues of the day,” said Albert Benchimol, President & Chief Executive Officer of AXIS Capital and Chairman of ABIR. “From climate and Comframe to capital and capacity, the future of the insurance and reinsurance markets has never been more important in offering global, well-regulated protection and peace-of-mind to consumers and businesses.”

This one-hour, virtual conversation will be moderated by Mr. Benchimol. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20^th at 2pm Atlantic. Topics to be discussed include climate risk, ICS/ComFrame implementation, financial stability, pandemic impact, IAIS' Operational Resilience Taskforce, IAIS Application Paper on Adapting to Emerging Risks, and the IAIS Issues Paper on Insurance Culture.

Jonathan Dixon is Secretary General of the IAIS, effective Nov. 2017. Dixon has a long association with the IAIS, having been a member of the IAIS Executive Committee since 2009 and Chair of its Implementation Committee since 2012. He also chaired the Governing Council of the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), a joint initiative of the IAIS and development partners aimed at strengthening responsible and inclusive insurance. Prior to joining the IAIS, he was Deputy Executive Officer at the Financial Services Board of South Africa with responsibility for insurance regulation and supervision. He was appointed to this position by the Minister of Finance in 2008. Before that he worked for 10 years for the National Treasury of South Africa on economic and financial sector policy issues. Dixon has a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Albert A. Benchimol was appointed President & CEO of AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd. in May 2012 and has served as a director since Jan. 2012. Mr. Benchimol joined the Company as EVP & CFO in Jan. 2011. He formerly served as EVP & CFO of PartnerRe Ltd. from Apr. 2000 to Sept. 2010, and CEO of PartnerRe Ltd.'s Capital Markets Group business unit from Jun. 2007 to Sept. 2010. Prior to PartnerRe, he was SVP & Treasurer at Reliance Group Holdings, Inc. and was previously with the Bank of Montreal. In January 2019, he was elected ABIR Chair, after serving as Vice-Chair. In Feb. 2019, he was appointed as an External Member of the Council of Lloyd's.
