
ABIR companies host largest private sector internship opportunity on island
Hamilton, Bermuda (June 12, 2025) — Bermudian students will benefit from almost 100 paid internships provided by member companies of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) this summer.
ABIR launched the 2025 summer internship programme this week at O’Hara House with a reception attended by approximately 160 people, including many of the interns, as well as leaders from Bermuda’s re/insurance community.
His Excellency the Governor of Bermuda, Andrew Murdoch, officially kicked off the internship programme, and encouraged the students to learn, strive to make an impact in Bermuda’s leading industry, and to believe in themselves. Practical advice and inspiration was provided by the co-chair of ABIR’s policy committee and Chubb Bermuda General Counsel Jevon Williams.
Officials attending the kick-off with the interns and ABIR executives included: His Excellency, Governor Andrew Murdoch, Deputy Governor Dave Morgan, Premier David Burt, JP, MP, Opposition Leader Jarion Richardson, Deputy Speaker Lovitta Foggo, Minister Jason Hayward, JP, MP, Minister Alexa Lightborne, JP, MP, Members of Bermuda's House of Assembly Doug DeCouto and Jamahl Simmons, Senator Victoria Cunningham, US Consul General Hurtado and Special Guest, Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky.

These internships not only introduce students to the many career paths available but also strengthen the connections between our industry and the next generation of local talent. The island’s largest, private-sector summer internship programme is one of the ways we continue to try to attract future Bermudian leaders.”
ABIR member companies contributed more than $1 billion to Bermuda’s economy in 2023 and employed 2,140 people, and they are expected to be the largest payers of Bermuda’s Corporate Income Tax, which took effect this year.
The interns will spend the summer months working with Bermuda’s leading international re/insurers. They will also benefit from professional development, networking and industry learning opportunities through events and initiatives organised by ABIR and past interns who now work in full-time roles with ABIR member companies.
This year’s programme includes:
• Lorene Phillips, executive leadership coach and founder of Clarendon Wallace, will lead the interns in an ‘Interview Skills’ workshop, a hands-on interactive workshop designed to help interns prepare for and excel in job interviews
• Dr. Crystal Clay, an executive coach and founder of Olive Branch Consulting, will provide social-media coaching to the interns, with a focus on creating and optimising a compelling LinkedIn profile
• RenaissanceRe will host a session on Claims
• Arch Capital Group and Hiscox Re & ILS will host the interns for two career roundtables, featuring young professionals in a cross-section of roles
• ABIR will host a photo-shoot to provide each intern with a professional headshot for their LinkedIn profile, resume or work biography
• Opportunity for interns to volunteer at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.
