Hamilton, Bermuda (June 24, 2025) — The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) announces the addition of Bermudian intern Amelia Othman to its team for the summer. Amelia will contribute to ABIR’s Policy and Regulatory work, gaining hands-on experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Othman is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business administration, specializing in International Business at Brock University in St. Catherine, Ontario. Othman is expected to graduate in 2026.
Collin Anderson, ABIR’s Director of Policy and Regulation, said: “We’re delighted to have Amelia join the ABIR office this summer. She brings great insight and enthusiasm to her work, and her contributions are already making a meaningful impact. We’re confident that the exposure to the re/insurance industry and the opportunity to engage with industry leaders will serve her well as she prepares for a successful career.”
"Supporting the next generation of Bermudian talent is a key part of ABIR’s commitment to the community," said John Huff, President and CEO of ABIR. "This summer, ABIR member companies are proud to host nearly 100 paid internships for Bermudian students. These internships provide meaningful exposure to the re/insurance industry, opening doors to career paths that are both global and grounded in Bermuda."
Nearly 70% of the Bermuda-based workforce at ABIR member companies consists of Bermudians, spouses of Bermudians, and permanent resident certificate holders. This is a strong testament to the industry’s commitment to developing and retaining local talent. The summer internship program is one of many ways ABIR members continue to strengthen community ties, promote opportunity, and build relationships with future leaders.
Othman will support ABIR by contributing to policy and legal research, while also taking the lead on select individual projects. Additionally, she will assist in coordinating the ABIR Summer Internship Program, which includes events and workshops for ABIR member company interns focused on career development, interview preparation, and building a professional online presence.
Othman said: “I am incredibly excited to join ABIR this summer as the Policy and Regulatory Affairs Intern. This internship provides the unique opportunity to see how re/insurance companies collaborate not only as an association, but in partnership with the government and other stakeholders. I am eager to contribute to meaningful projects and gain experience that will help shape my future career.”
